Colville Food Bank - About Us Title Image

The Volunteer Food and Resource Center (VFRC), commonly known as the Colville Food Bank, is  a non-profit corporation (501-c-3).  VFRC's organizational chart consists of a Board of Directors, Executive Director, part-time assistants and volunteers. VFRC is an active member of Faith Based Community Resources, a Christian based group of local church leaders and others dedicated to helping our needy citizens with emergencies. We are affiliated with Second Harvest Food Bank, Northwest Harvest Food Bank, FEMA, the Emergency Food Assistance Program (commodities), and The Salvation Army (voucher program).

The Center relies on food and money donations from businesses, organizations, churches, and individuals. Super One Foods, Safeway, and Terry's Dairy provide food and dairy two days a week. To supplement local food donations, we buy food from Second Harvest Food Bank for pennies on the dollar. Produce and dairy is free. They deliver the food from Spokane twice a month. We network with area food banks and share extra quantities of food items with each other, rather than let it go to waste.

Our customers are by and large living at or below the poverty level. They are a mix of single parents, senior citizens on fixed incomes, disabled, unemployed, underemployed, working part-time trying to support families, working full-time at minimum wage, homeless, mentally impaired, and immigrants. Our largest percentage of customers are children and senior citizens.

Background:  VFRC dba Colville Food Bank

Colville Food Bank was organized as a grass roots operation in the late 1970's. In 1983 the food bank became incorporated as a non profit business (501c(3)) and named Volunteer Food and Resource Center (VFRC). Operated by an all volunteer staff, VFRC rented a house from the City of Colville for $1/year. In the early 1990's the current location was purchased with the help of Catholic Charities, grants and community donations. At that time, the Center served 100+ families in the tri-county area and mentored other food banks with their startup.  Today, the Colville Food Bank serves as many as  400 households in a month, totaling over 1,200 individuals.  In 2007 we gave out over 137 tons of food to Colville area residents.
