Become a Volunteer at the Food Bank
|
- Each year, volunteers contribute hundreds of hours to helping the Food Bank provide service to those in need. Some help for a couple of hours, others a day a week. We’re flexible.
- Our volunteers sort, inspect and package product for distribution, collect food donations, fill food orders, send out mailings, repackage food products, clean the center, provide administrative support, help at special events and advocate for local families needing emergency assistance.
- Volunteers are the heart of our organization, come from all corners of our community and share one thing in common – the willingness to give of themselves and help their neighbors in need.
- Volunteers have the faces of working professionals, retirees, stay-at-home-parents, young children, college students, scouts, and members of the U.S. military.
VOLUNTEERS ARE THE BACKBONE OF THE FOODBANK.
|
What If I Don't Have Time to Volunteer?
|
- There is still plenty you can do! ... Invite a representative from the food bank to speak at the next meeting of your social club, work group or fraternal organization.
- You can help us educate your friends and colleagues about hunger in Colville and the surrounding area, and what we can do together to end it.
- If you don’t have time to volunteer, the Food Bank welcomes donations of food and gift cards.
- Gift cards from local stores are used by clients to purchase perishable food not provided by the Food Bank.

Plan a Food Drive
|
- Organizing a food drive can be very fun and exciting. We welcome any amount of food from community food drives. Take the lead and organize a food drive of your own through your business, school, church group or organization. We can help with bags, logistical tips, etc. Non-perishable canned goods are badly needed, such as fruit, tuna, soup and peanut butter.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!!! |
REMEMBER, THOSE IN NEED OF FOOD ARE HUNGRY ALL YEAR,
NOT JUST OVER THE HOLIDAYS.
In other words,
the spring and summer months of the year are important times to host food and money drives, too!
|
| |
The best way to ensure a smooth effort is to spend time planning the drive.
The primary steps to include in your plan are:
- SET DATES: Consider what time of year you want to hold your drive. When setting the date(s) allow plenty of time to prepare and get the word out, and also to coordinate with our staff.
- TOUR THE CENTER: Bring along interested colleagues with you. Please call ahead to schedule a tour with our staff (509) 684-2971.
- SET A GOALl : Decide how much food you would like to collect during your food drive. How many potential contributors do you have? How much can you reasonably expect to collect from each donor? Will you collect food or cash-or both? Do you want to make it interesting? Contact us for ideas.
- DEVELOP A COLLECTION SYSTEM: Determine how and where food will be collected. You can use boxes, barrels or bins. Small to medium-size boxes work well for food drives. They aren't too heavy when full. .....
If we’re made aware of your drive in advance, we can provide boxes for your drive.
- FOOD DELIVERY: Contact us in advance to make arrangements. Usually the food is delivered to the
Food Bank at 210 S. Wynne Street (East of the fairgrounds parking lot). If that isn’t possible, we can arrange to pick it up.
